Since 1995
ABOUT
Jan van de Kamp founded Havikerwaard in 1995 at the former Bingerden brick factory. The complex is located on the river IJssel in the outlying area between Arnhem and Zutphen. The company has grown because of his great passion for breeding and top sport. Van de Kamp: "Applying your own insights and then seeing that it works, that's what we do it for!"
Our vision
We have about 10 broodmares that regularly produce beautiful foals. But we not only raise our own foals, we regularly buy promising foals. We are proud of the fact that a number of the horses bred by De Havikerwaard are doing very well internationally. For example, Babylotte, Wolisco DDH, Lord Sandro, El Divo and Waylotte DDH. In our opinion good breeding starts with a mare lineage that produces sport horses in combination with the scope of the Holsteiner, the hardness of the Selle Francais and the speed of the KWPN horse.

Breeding
We mostly use a mix between Holstein, KWPN and Selle Francais. In addition to proven stallions, young stallions also get a chance. Van de Kamp: "We want to try to be at the forefront of breeding. For example, we were also one of the first to breed a foal by Totilas, even before he was approved."
We also invest in a good dam line with mares with the right mindset. After all, the mare determines for 70% whether a horse is good or not.
Youngstock
We have about ten of our own mares with whom five to ten foals are bred each year. We take care of the rearing and training of our own and purchased foals ourselves. In this way we supervise the horses, because quality is of paramount importance to us. At the age of three, the horses begin their training for the jumping sport.
We only provide rearing for our own horses.
Training stable
Breeding and training promising show jumpers is our main goal. The horses receive a thorough training with us, where we give them time to grow in the show jumping sport.
Perfect care, that daily grazing and good nutrition play an important role in this. For example, we always feed our own hay, which is sown and harvested with care. In addition, we make use of the aquatrainer. Under the expert guidance of our equine exercise therapist Jeanine, the horses are trained as optimally as possible with it.
